| The Abbott and Costello TV Show is timeless American humor, as fresh today as it was 40 years ago. All the classic routines which "the boys" performed on film, radio and stage, were captured in 1952-1953 for the new medium of television and delivered at the peak of their powers.
The regular cast of characters, including Mr. Fields, Mike the Cop, Stinky, Bacciagalupe and Hillary, had worked with Bud and Lou on film and stage and each contributed memorably. These shows stand today as perhaps the finest surviving representation of the art of burlesque comedy.
This disc contains four episodes.
"Lou's Birthday": Lou invites the whole gang to his apartment to help him celebrate his birthday. Things get off on the wrong foot with Mr. Fields, when no matter what kind of overture Lou makes to him, goes nuts turning each one inside out to become an insult - a brilliant performance of a classic vaudeville routine. The party becomes a disaster when Lou mixes ant paste for antipasto. To cheer Lou up Bacciagalupe offer to make him a birthday cake, a kindness which Lou turns into a classic slapstick.
"Getting A Job": Bud does his "loafing-knead dough" bakery routine and frustrates Lou, who shortly thereafter is selling straw hats on the street and fending off a parade of lunatics. The highlight of this scene is the great "Susquehanna Hat Company" routine. The boys then visit the Fields Employment Agency where more mayhem and hilarity unfold.
"Uncle Bozzo": Lou's uncle Bozzo visits and drives everyone crazy with his loud opera singing and his ultra laziness, highlighted by the boys pushing a bed on which Bozzo lies relaxing, through downtown streets. All three of them get thrown into jail where much more hilarity ensues.
"Stolen Skates": The boys inadvertently buy a crate of roller skates, which unbeknownst to them contain stolen diamonds in one pair. Crooks pursue them and Mr. Fields greedily buys the skates and then blows his top thinking he's been had. Bingo, the chimp, on the other hand, takes great delight in the skates but drives Mike the Cop crazy. In the hilarious conclusion Bud finds the diamonds and goes bananas with greed. | we accept the following cards:
